NORTHRIDGE, CA - Representative Tony Cardenas announced over five-million dollars in funding for improvements to the Pacoima Wash this week. The Pacoima wash flows through Pacoima and this makes it difficult for people to cross over.

With these funds, a new bridge will be made to create a safe path to cross over the Wash.
The Pacoima Wash is a flood channel that runs through Northeast San Fernando Valley before joining the LA River.
Funds are being sent to the office of City Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez to build the bridge for pedestrians and cyclists.
Cardenas provided two checks, one for five-million dollars, and the other for eight-hundred-thousand.
The eight-hundred-thousand dollar check will being going to the non-profit Pacoima Beautiful, an environmental justice organization. It will still be going towards the first phase of construction for the new bridge.

The project will have four phases and the bridge will reach from the 118 freeway to San Fernando Road when completed. The bridge will connect Pacoima with the city of San Fernando.
The first stage of the beautification project will consist of a bikeway, a pedestrian walkway and amenities for youth. Many Pacoima residents are grateful and relieved for this soon to come bridge installment.
The project began with a recommendation from the community in 2011 saying that it was something the area was in need of.
There is no set date on when the bridge will be finished entirely.
